In the early 1980s, a little company started retail sunglasses on the beauteous beaches of Maui, Hawaii. Not a bad idea, taking into account that sunshine is what made Hawaii famous. It wasn’t long before the company realized that none of the sunglasses on the market provided adequate shelter versus Hawaii’s severe glare and destructive ultraviolet rays. So they invented their own. Maui Jim grew from an primary line of seven styles to their current 61 styles, making them the most immediate growing polarized sunglass maker in the world.

Could be my last pair of sunglasses ever. By Panda Maui Jim’s – amazing sunglasses. Polarized lenses…I got these also because they are actual glass so they won’t scratch as easily. The polarized lenses are amazing…especially if you’re in Hawaii which is where I was when I got my first pair – these Dawn Patrol sunglasses. I’m a photographer and looking thru a pair of Maui Jim’s sunglasses was like looking through my camera with a fine polarized filter on the lens. I could see through the water, the sky was bluer, the green was greener. It was a heightened visual experience. The arms also have springs which make them tougher. You can just feel the quality. Maui Jim’s also come with a warranty. If I end up scratching these puppies, even after a few years, I can get the lenses replaced for $40. I’m thinking these might be my last pair of sunglasses I’ll ever need. I actually just bought another pair of Maui Jim’s – Pono. I wanted some brown lenses since they tend to make everything look lighter. I might just get rid of all of my other sunglasses and just hold onto these two. This could become an obsession.

Crystal clear lenses By torps I’ve heard a lot of positive things about Maui Jim’s lenses but was never willing to plunk down the hefty premium wearing a pair requires. I finally gave in to these as they were one of the lower priced Maui Jim’s but still pretty stylish. All the hype is true.. The contrast and clarity blows my Oakleys and Raybans away! Maui Jim also has a great replacement lens warranty. You surely should give this brand a try.

Pseudo Retro-Sunglasses By Michael C. Mundt I bought these Maui Jim Dawn Patrols online, without having worm them to know for sure if I liked them. I was a bit nervous because although I like the quality of Maui Jim sunglasses, I’ve never been a huge fan of their design choices. To be honest, their lineup seems to consist of two different styles: the narrow/thin boutique style and the sporty wrap around style… neither of which do I like. I was looking for something a little pseudo retro looking, with larger lenses. This was the only pair I found that even came close to that. On the plus side, the quality of their products are impressive and well made. The sunglasses come in a small box with the sunglasses, a soft microfiber pouch, and a harder zipper case. The sunglasses themselves are lighter than most all metal Maui Jim’s, partially because the frame is plastic instead of metal (except a small position of the the arms). The tint is a nice neutral gray, that dampens things just enough to protect your eyes while still preserving all the necessary protection, and enhancing color saturation. The center of the lenses are less tinted, while the top and bottom are a bit darker tint. According to the website the lenses themselves are made of an extra thin glass, which helps preserve transparency while also reducing weight and eye fatigue. Overall I’m very happy with my purchase, they aren’t the best style I’ve ever seen… but they are very simple in design, and offer great protection and clarity. The simplicity of their design should prevent this particular pair from ever going out of style.
Overall happy customer.
